Clinical Medical Assisting Cohort Launches Careers in Healthcare

Late December, 18 young adults successfully completed Hope Builders’ Clinical Medical Assisting (CMA) program, 16 of whom started off the new year entering full-time career pathway positions. Many of these young adults graduated high school in 2020 and struggled to navigate entering the workforce amid a global pandemic. Others worked low-paying jobs with little room for advancement in the customer service and restaurant industry, ultimately leaving them unemployed during shutdowns. Seeking the stability needed to change their lives and the opportunity to continue their education they applied to Hope Builders. Through a combination of remote, live-online and hands-on skills training, Hope Builders was able to continue to offer its training programs and support trainees during a time of uncertainty.

The 16 young adults from our most recent class who have, to date, been linked to career opportunities are earning an average wage of $18.18 per hour ($37,814 annually) with full benefits. Over 50% were hired by their externship sites after displaying initiative, reliability and mastery of Medical Assisting skills. Employers include Providence, UCI Medical Center, Pacific Medical, MemorialCare and Share Our Selves.
