On May 21st, Clark Construction Group, DPR Construction, and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. hosted the annual Builder’s Luncheon at Hope Builders, raising more than $245,000 to help young adults launch careers in construction. Nearly 100 industry leaders gathered to network, celebrate Hope Builders’ 30 years of impact in the community, and support the agency’s work building pathways to prosperity for young adults.

The event was held at Hope Builders’ 10,000-square-foot training facility, providing current trainees a unique opportunity to mingle with professionals and hear firsthand about opportunities within the industry.

Guests also heard from key speakers, including Carlos Gonzalez from Clark Construction, Michael Konetzke and Marc Ness from DPR Construction, and Shawna Smith, Hope Builders’ executive director. Each articulated a shared commitment to addressing workforce needs while empowering local youth to overcome barriers and launch their careers.

A highlight of the event was a moving speech by Gilmar, a current construction trainee. After briefly attending Santa Ana College and dropping out, Gilmar worked as a custodian and helped his parents with house cleaning. Encouraged by his sister, he applied to Hope Builders’ construction program, where he gained skills in construction, professionalism, and initiative.

Gilmar is on track to finish training next month, and is eager to start his career. “I am proud of all that I have accomplished here at Hope Builders,” he shared. “It makes me all that much more confident that I have the skills I need to succeed. I am excited for what comes next. Thank you for making all of this possible.”
