Breaking Down Barriers: How One Young Mother Transformed Her Life at Hope Builders

Sabrinna S

Through mentorship, life skills and job skills training, Hope Builders opens doors and creates opportunity for hundreds of young adults each year. Sabrinna, a 19-year-old single mother, is one of the recent graduates who has found a pathway to success at Hope Builders.

Sabrinna left high school with dreams of building a better life through education. While enrolled at Cerritos College, she worked hard to keep up with her coursework, holding onto the hope that a college degree would pave the way to a stable future. But when she found out she was pregnant, everything changed.

Like so many young women facing unexpected motherhood, Sabrinna made the incredibly difficult decision to leave school to provide for her son. She found a retail job and did everything she could to make ends meet, but the reality of single motherhood quickly set in. Each month brought new stress, and the future she once envisioned felt further and further out of reach.

Then, a friend told her about Hope Builders. For Sabrinna, it felt like a lifeline. She enrolled in the 20-week Clinical Medical Assistant training program, committed to transforming her life.

But transformation wasn’t easy. With the help of Hope Builders’ staff, she created a structured study plan and learned time management strategies that helped her stay on track. Juggling part-time work, parenting, and a full training schedule was no small feat, but Sabrinna was determined to complete training and start her career in the medical field.

That determination paid off. Today, Sabrinna is working as a medical assistant, earning $43,680 a year with benefits, a stable income that allows her to support her son and begin planning for a future that once seemed impossible. She still receives guidance and encouragement from Hope Builders as she continues to grow in her career.

She shares, “Hope Builders not only changed my life, but the life of my son! Thank you for helping me start my career and provide for him.”

We join Sabrinna in thanking you, our community of Hope Builders, for partnering with us to transform young lives.
