Construction industry partners gathered in May for Hope Builders’ annual Builder’s Luncheon to support the next generation of skilled workers and the economic opportunity they create for our community.

Hosted by Clark Construction, DPR Construction, and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., the event raised more than $220,000 to build pathways to lasting impact.

Speakers from each of the host companies highlighted an important reality: every career launched through Hope Builders creates ripple effects far beyond a single job placement. Graduates contribute to the growth of local businesses, provide stability for their families, and help create stronger economic futures for the region.

“Most of us are in the construction business because of the joy and satisfaction that comes from building something tangible,” said Marc Ness, Southern California Unit Business Leader of DPR Construction. “But when you think about what Hope Builders does— laying a foundation that continues to transform people’s lives and to supply a stream to the labor pool— the impact of this organization can endure far beyond the buildings that we erect.”

One of the most inspiring moments of the afternoon came from Hope Builders alumnus Kenneth Ramirez, who returned to share his own journey with attendees. His story reflected a central theme of the luncheon: a first job can lead to the next job, then a better job, and ultimately the best job, creating both career growth and opportunities for others along the way.

31-year-old Kenneth is a licensed C-10 Electrical Contractor and owner of ClimaxCCU Professional Cleaning, a growing business that employs several team members.

Kenneth shared how Hope Builders gave him his first real introduction to construction and sparked his interest in the industry. After completing training in 2014, he worked as a laborer on tenant improvement projects, often commuting to Los Angeles before sunrise, allowing him to build both technical skills and discipline.

While on jobsites, Kenneth found himself drawn to electrical work and decided to pursue a career that aligned with this interest. He enrolled in Long Beach City College while working as an electrical apprentice and quickly discovered a passion for the trade.

Over the next eight years, Kenneth continued progressing in the field. In 2022, he and his wife Ashley launched ClimaxCCU Professional Cleaning, a post-construction cleanup company that has continued to grow.

“Today, I stand before you proud”, Kenneth shared. “Proud to be a business owner. Proud to lead a team of 5 employees whose families depend on them, and proud to provide a brighter future for my own children. Most of all, I’m proud to call myself a Hope Builder.”
