Michael and Pauline Smith Build Pathways to Generational Impact
Hope Builders is deeply grateful to Michael and Pauline Smith, and their daughter, Jan Shea, for more than five years of generous support and commitment to our mission. Their generosity helps young adults access the training, guidance, and resources to build pathways to lasting change.
The Smiths’ continued support is helping young adults, like Melanie, turn aspirations into action, building the skills and confidence to take the next step toward the future they envision.
At 23, Melanie dreamed of working in the medical field but could not afford the high cost of college or trade school. Working as a cashier, she was focused on paying her bills and unable to save enough to pursue her dream.
After hearing about Hope Builders, Melanie enrolled in the Clinical Medical Assisting Program. Through her training, she gained the hard and soft skills she needed to take her first steps toward a career in healthcare.
Soon after completing the program, Melanie was hired as a medical assistant at Cancer and Blood Specialty Clinic in Fountain Valley, earning $21 an hour.
Today, that impact extends beyond Melanie. She hopes her journey will inspire her younger sisters to pursue their own dreams and see what is possible for their futures.
“Because of Hope Builders, I was able to take my first steps in the medical field. Now I know anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
That’s The Hope Builders Effect: one opportunity can launch a career, strengthen a future, and inspire what comes next.
Thank you, Michael, Pauline, and Jan, for being a starting point for young adults like Melanie. Your investment creates opportunities that extend far beyond a first job—opening doors for individuals, their families, and our community.
