Ana: A Journey of Hope

Ana R

Ana first applied to Hope Builders in 2021. A survivor of domestic violence, Ana, shares “I was not confident in myself and felt like I had no motivation or goals since I couldn’t afford college.” Even though Ana never set up an initial interview, Hope Builders stayed in touch with monthly emails to encourage her to continue the application process. Eventually she attended a preview night for the chance to hear from alumni of the medical assisting program and was so inspired she promptly reapplied.

In addition to learning new skills like giving injections, obtaining vital signs, and learning medical terminology— Ana received the mentorship and support she needed to grow her confidence and excelled in the training program.

She successfully earned her certificate of completion in March and in April launched her career with Hope Builders’ employer partner, Providence, as a medical assistant. Today Ana earns $25 per hour with full benefits.

Ana jumped at the opportunity to serve as a keynote speaker at Hope Builders’ Winter Advancement ceremony. She shared, “I love my job. I have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients one compassionate act at a time.” She continued with her “deepest gratitude to Hope Builders staff and donors. Thank you for investing in my future and helping me to realize my dreams.”

Because of supporters like you, we are able to transform the lives of over 200 Orange County young adults, like Ana, each year by preparing them for and linking them to careers.
